What the heck is it doing?
John, Dunno? Take a look at: http://www.3111skyline.com/download/screenshots/opensuse/kde4+compiz-idle.jp... That shows a CPU load history for my laptop with KDE4 rc2 running with Compiz as well. Normal working load (that's when I'm typing, browsing, etc) is about 15%. (I've highlighted this in red for you) I also started ksnapshot and then let the box idle for 15 seconds or so before grabbing the screenshot to show you the "idle" demand on my system. It's about 2% (shown in blue). You definitely have something going on if your box is just sitting there and eating 20+% of your CPU. Things to check? Adobe (anything). Flash-plugin, etc. I have seen those firefox plugins eat 80% of my CPU before. Beyond that, someone else will have to offer ideas. -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.
