but from what JDD writes, I just came up with this...what if the DNS server (reading from a central hosts file) would handle out the correct IP given a username as a subdomain. A la:
peter.lots_of_machines.somewhere 10.0.1.5 jasmin.lots_of_machines.somewhere 10.0.1.6 ...etc.
If one could append the new machinename to the hosts file during creation of yet one more virtual instance, that would do...
DDNS - just run a name server.
