Hi,
I'm trying setup LDAP server with YAST on openSUSE 11.1 as part of making samba pdc + ldap. The main tutorial on openSUSE wiki[0] (based on 10.3 installation & setup) said that I must change openLDAP configuration manually but openSUSE 11.1 has a different approach by making the configuration automatically :
" # # Note: The OpenLDAP configuration has been created by YaST. YaST does not # use /etc/openldap/slapd.conf to store the OpenLDAP configuration anymore. # YaST uses OpenLDAP's dynamic configuration database (back-config) to # store the LDAP server's configuration. " The main question : where is the openLDAP configuration on openSUSE 11.1 It is accessible via LDAP under the dn "cn=config". E.g. you read it search by doing:
ldapsearch -H ldapi:/// -Y external -b cn=config the same way you can make modifications with ldapadd/ldapmodify -H ldapi:/// -Y external -b cn=config The configuration itself is stored in a set of LDIF files below /etc/openldap/slapd.d/. It is not recommended to touch the files there by hand (unless absolutely necessary, e.g. for removing schema files). For details on the OpenLDAP's config database (back-config) please have a look a the OpenLDAP Admin Guide, either online at: http://www.openldap.org/doc/admin24/ or offline, as part of the openldap2 package at: /usr/share/doc/packages/openldap2/guide/ BTW, you can still go back to the old /etc/openldap/slapd.conf based configuration by setting OPENLDAP_CONFIG_BACKEND to "files" in /etc/sysconfig/openldap and configuring/maintaining /etc/openldap/slapd.conf manually.
and is there any updated article about setting up samba pdc + ldap on openSUSE 11.1 ? [0] : http://en.opensuse.org/Howto_setup_SUSE_11.1_as_Samba_PDC
