[opensuse] Switching from kde3 > kde4?

When I installed openSuSE v11.1 I elected to keep kde3, which may not have been the best course. Is it possible for me to rectify that now, without having to reinstall the system from scratch? Would the data files of kde apps be preserved in the transition?
