Philip,
What did you search on? I checked the ISC site against oracle and got
nothing.
Not that I'll ever use oracle db's, but it would at least be nice to know what
in the world oracle and _? has to do with BIND?
Google! I asked about bind and underscore (the word underscore).
I turned up a couple of forum posts. Basically, the underscore is an
un-allowed character, if you follow the specs, but it seems some servers and
clients allow it anyway. BIND doesn't by default, hence the option to relax
the rules.
I think Oracle in there is just a red-herring, because the underscore business
is really something M$ decided would be a good idea to support Active
Directory. (Why they thought they could get away with blatantly violating the
specifications, well, my best guess:
1) they decide DNS is cool and they'll use it for AD (embrace)
2) they write an implementation of DNS wot does allow the underscore (extend)
3) they expect their modifications will "catch on" and the previous
restrictions gone (exterminate)
So, in short, I don't think _ has anything to do with oracle unless you put _'s
un your SIDs, etc.
