After much hunting, I've failed to get an answer to my question.
How do I START an inet.d script?
I've written a script to run at level 5 (network +X) and have the R and S scripts in rc5.d.
/etc/init.d/<service> start, if you have configured it properly. Having the Knn & Snn scrips in rc5.d will invoke them automatically upon entering or leaving that runlevel. Note that the normal contents of rc5.d are symlinks to the full script in /etc/init.d.
