Not recently Fred. 
I'm moving my stuff to fresh KDE4 installation, where KDE3 will be Just in 
Case (tm) desktop, so you can imagine that leftovers of problems are no more 
issue. Freezing desktop, even for a moments, wouldn't be minor one.

I usually run KDE 3.5.10 as primary and KDE 4.2.1 as a second session. 
The hardware is FX5200 with NVIDIA-Linux-x86-173.14.17-pkg0.run picked from 
ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86 server.
