Thanks Dotan,
I had already looked at both of those. Neither is really helpful. It looks
like somebody started them and then the effort died. I think it is really
important that a reasonably complete list exist for comparison and
reference by users. The chance that anyone but developers will query
bugzilla to try and find that information to make a quick check if their
issue has already been submitted is in reality "Slim and None".
I just seems strange that with the voluminous number of posts and intense
user interest on the subject, that Novell doesn't maintain a list.
It would be huge list.
I'm not sure if you meant to put a smiley at the end and missed it or what??
Somehow the intent of the list I was talking about doesn't involve every little
menu entry, title bar, etc.. That wasn't my intent at all.
The intent was that there should be a list, easily accessible by openSuSE
users were the present "lack of functionality" of KDE4 compared to KDE3 is
captured, documented and tracked. Where users can easily add items as they are
discovered and where the openSuSE community can see and measure the progress
KDE4 is making. Especially as the date when Novell will discard KDE3 draws nears.
Bugzilla isn't the answer. Time and time again we have seen the hesitancy
users have to adding items to bugzilla for whatever reason, and bugzilla isn't
a place where you can just look and read through the information on a single
page easily without having to understand and know how to effectively query the
bugzilla database. Just to look at the bugs I've worked with takes the query
string:
https://bugzilla.novell.com/buglist.cgi?query_format=advanced&short_desc_type=allwordssubstr&short_desc=&long_desc_type=fulltext&long_desc=&bug_file_loc_type=allwordssubstr&bug_file_loc=&status_whiteboard_type=allwordssubstr&status_whiteboard=&keywords_type=anywords&keywords=&bug_status=UNCONFIRMED&bug_status=NEW&bug_status=ASSIGNED&bug_status=NEEDINFO&bug_status=REOPENED&bug_status=RESOLVED&bug_status=VERIFIED&bug_status=CLOSED&emailreporter1=1&emailinfoprovider1=1&emailqa_contact1=1&emailcc1=1&emaillongdesc1=1&emailtype1=substring&email1=rankin&emailtype2=substring&email2=&bugidtype=include&bug_id=&votes=&chfieldfrom=&chfieldto=Now&chfieldvalue=&cmdtype=doit&order=Bug+Number&remtype=asdefault&field0-0-0=noop&type0-0-0=noop&value0-0-0=
Frankly, I'm a bit surprised that there isn't a convenient list actively
maintained by Novell to make sure the list that everyone is working from is as
complete as possible from the beginning so these problems can worked instead of
having them dribble in over time as the folks that utilize bugzilla add the
functionality voids of KDE4 to the database. By setting up some type of
convenient place where this information can be easily entered by user, you get
to "Cast a broader net" for lack of other words and speed the process of
identifying the instances of missing functionality so that KDE4 can fill the
void being left by KDE3. (no pun intended)
This management tool has to exist somewhere or it needs to be created ASAP.
Zonker, this is your area as liaison, what do you think?
