I installed SUSE but I can't copy any files to the /srv/www/htdocs directory.
I have a complete website I want to just drop in there. I tried su cp but that doesn't work.
What command do I need to use?
Thanks Pete
Peter,
Don't fret, as Michael said, it works --- No tricks. Your issue has to be permission problems. There isn't any other protection that prevents it. It is literally the same as copying any file from anywhere else on your computer.
By default all directories under /srv/www are owned by root:root meaning by the root user and root group. If you are working from the command line, the easiest way to copy your site to htdocs is to use 'su' to become root, enter root's password, and then copy away.
The typos are just too bad, let me try again: If you use kde and want to use konqueror to do it, then (1) either log in as root, or (2) just use ALT+F2 and type in "konqueror", click "Options", check the "Run as a different user" box, enter root as the username in the Username box, and then type in root's password and click "Run". Viola, you have konqueror running as root in your normal user kde session. Copy away... [OK, I can live with that...] (Don't have more than 2 kids...) -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.
