KDE 4.0 was a developer-only release, something like alpha quality coming out of the KDE project. KDE 4.1 was a early-adopter release, something like beta quality coming out of the KDE project. KDE 4.2 is for general use, something the KDE project feels is final release quality. However, at this time openSUSE packages for KDE 4.2 are not officially supported. KDE 4.2 hasn't (and, IIRC, won't) be released as an online update for any openSUSE version up to 11.1. As such, end-users should feel justified calling KDE 4.2 on openSUSE beta software, as it still hasn't been part of a release yet.
