Are there any alternatives to XDMCP for linux to linux desktop sharing that can run in a window instead of a full tty that run as fast as XDMCP? I
You can run an xdmcp session in a window. Look at xnest in the package xorg- x11-server-extra. It's as easy as "Xnest :1 -broadcast" (or -query <remote xdmcp server>)
know about tightvnc, NX, freeNX client, ssh x11 forwarding, but I am looking for something that doesn't take the compression penalty.
Not sure what you mean here. The "compression penalty" usually speeds things up dramatically. I have run NX over very low bandwidth connections, with the same feeling as with a local login.
