Uh, I have tried numerous drivers before posting, and none helped.
Now, inspired by your suggestion,  I tried
"HP LaserJet 4 Plus Foomatic/hpijs, hpijs 2.8.7.3", and finally it
prints.  But the quality is veery poor.  Links in firefox are not
readable at all.

Now, does anywhere an overview of the quality of the numerous drivers
exist?  I am totally confused by all those combinations of
CUPS/gutenprint/omni/foomatic/manufacturer drivers :)
