I think Studio is a web wrapper around KIWI. Unless you are doing something odd, KIWI is rather straight forward. Out of the box, it comes with configurations for making DVD, VM, USB, PXE, OEM, LTSP and other images. It can be customized via a few XML files. BTW, it is easy to add repositories and packages from anywhere smart or zypper allow. I really like that I can check my scripts to make images in to my source control system, making image creation a bit more reliable and trackable.
That could be. I'll have to see if I can find some time to check KIWI out more fully this weekend. I'm just not very happy with all the dependencies. There are still way too many dependencies on a fully installed system to remove something. To remove avahi, I would have had to remove almost all of my KDE and/or gnome(which I'm not running) because one things needs this, and then something else needs that.
