Are you able to connect through the wirless card?, else it may only be
a LED problem.
In addition, Wireless Card is controlled by BIOS, which one can access
through ThinkVantage at boot. Try checking/changing the BIOS setting
as well.
This is for the R61 TP, as I said earlier your settings may be
different. If you have the ThinkVantage Manual installed, it may help
in troubleshooting the wireless card problem.

On the ThinkPad R61, there is a button on the extreme left of the
armrest panel facing towards you-this toggles wireless radio on/off.
Perhaps this is what you were looking for? YMMV, but look for a
similar button in your model of TP.
I've got a couple of R51e models, and I don't see any such button. I
think the switch on/off wifi is done with the blue Fn+<otherkey>.
Besides, the wifi is working fine, it's only the indicator that isn't
on.
