I haven't seen that problem, but it sounds like bug report material to me. If
a process can't be killed, it's usually because it's hanging somewhere inside
a syscall, in uninterruptible sleep.

I tried killing that manually, -15, -9, -11 ... It wouldn't die.

What's going on? Why is HAL stuck in the throat of the shutdown?
I haven't seen that problem, but it sounds like bug report material to me. If
a process can't be killed, it's usually because it's hanging somewhere inside
a syscall, in uninterruptible sleep.
