I couldn't install photoshop 5, neither. First version that really run 
completely under crossover office (now also under wine) was 7.

Picasa basically does nothing but to show nice effects - which are, I must 
confess, really funny and impressing. But when you have seen it, there's no 
more use for it.

That's probably the best idea. Then she can use the version 6 that she's used 
to. Changing to a newer or even actual version of photoshop would give her 
almost as much to learn as gimp.

Has she ever tried digiKam? That's a great app. If it's not for photo montage 
I guess it can do at least everything a "photoshop elements" user would want 
to. And it's as easy to use at it can be.
