I had 11.0 with the ATI drivers installed with no issues.
I removed the ATI drivers, packman packages, etc and upgraded to 11.1 with no problems. I then re-installed the ATI drivers from the ATI repository. After doing so, at random, I will be activly using KDE 3.5 and it will just take me to the login screen just as if I had logged out of the session. Upon closer inspection the issue is xorg crashing.
Has anyone else had this problem? What is the solution? Do you know if this is caused by a problem in the ATI driver itself or some other package?
I've been running the ATI- / AMD-supplied driver (obtained from the repository at http://www2.ati.com/suse/11.1/) for a few weeks now with no such problems. Specifically, I'm running these packages: "ati-fglrxG01-kmp-pae" version "8.561_2.6.27.7_9.1-1.1" and "x11-video-fglrxG01" version "8.561-1.1". This is openSUSE 11.1 on x86 hardware (32-bit mode) and, as you see from the package name, the PAE kernel and modules.
