        Sorry being late getting back to you Jim, but the real world called. 
The way I
do it when I need to add a repo from a mirror is just to go to the mirror in
your web browser and get to the place where you see the i586, repodata and ,
x86_64 directories, then either right-click and 'copy link location' or just
cut and paste the address from the browser into the command line like:

zypper ar http://cut&pasted_link

        In the links you gave above, if you go there in your browser you get:

[home_dgege_fprint]
name=fprint project (openSUSE_10.3)
type=rpm-md
baseurl=http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/dgege:/fprint/openSUSE_10.3/
gpgcheck=1
gpgkey=http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/dgege:/fprint/openSUSE_10.3/repodata/repomd.xml.key
enabled=1

        That's the repo data not the address you need. You should have grabbed:

http://ftp5.gwdg.de/pub/opensuse/repositories/home:/dgege:/fprint/openSUSE_10.3/

and done

zypper ar
http://ftp5.gwdg.de/pub/opensuse/repositories/home:/dgege:/fprint/openSUSE_10.3/
    drege

        That would have added the repo correctly for you ;-)
