3d is broken by ATI in the 8-12 release. Go back and download the 8-9 driver from:
http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/linux64/radeonprevious-linux64.html
Then build the rpm
Hmm. Tried that. Still disappointing, though. Around 210 FPS on glxgears.
Actually, I think that's the version I had installed from the ati repository, anyway. So it's no surprise there's no change.

Peter, That's strange. I have run direct comparison tests between the 8-9 drivers and the later versions and posted the results to the list. For my x1300 based laptop, here is the 8-9 v. 8-12 data: With the 8-9 driver: 23:43 alchemy:~> glxgears 4889 frames in 5.0 seconds = 977.692 FPS 4870 frames in 5.0 seconds = 973.831 FPS With the 8-12 driver: 23:59 alchemy:~> glxgears 3021 frames in 5.0 seconds = 604.191 FPS 2613 frames in 5.0 seconds = 522.544 FPS 2614 frames in 5.0 seconds = 522.795 FPS For my 9600 mobility radeon, the differences or more dramatic. 2600 FPS with 8-9, 900 FPS with 8-10 to 8-12. I don't know what the heck ATI has done to bork the driver, but I suspect that new additions to the driver to support the 2400, 3000 and now 4000 series of cards has had a negative effect on the linux driver. Looks at the download size of the latest ATI install package. Over 78 Meg. You've got to be kidding me. I hope the 9-1 driver has pleasant surprises in store... -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.
