Those two work like umasks, one for _f_iles and one for _d_irectories.
If you have no idea what umasks are, take a look at [1]. If that
confuses you too much, read [2]. This is an introduction to Unix file
permissions that is pretty complete, yet easy to understand and
surprisingly short.
