I'm using stuff directly from the OpenSuSE 11.0 x86 distribution:
OpenSuSE 11.0 x86 Gnome (Gnome Desktop reports as 2.22.1-26.1) Gimp 2.4.5-41.1
I guess I could upgrade GIMP, which would automatically reinstall it...
I'm in 11.0 KDE3 right now and I can draw. There is no error messages when starts from console.
It seems as a solution, but first check that the problem is not in your home directory in .gimp-2.4 . Create new user, log in that account and then check how GIMP works.
The GIMP 2.4 is old style where you open new image from menu in a toolbox window. If you update to 2.6, don't be surprised to see empty image window opened on startup, right after the toolbox, and missing menus on the top of toolbox. It is a feature :-)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hmm, well, that was a simple thing to check. Pity my brain was apparently still on Christmas vacation. Sure enough, I can draw just fine when I log in as another user on the same machine (at the same keyboard and mouse) So, I must have messed up something in some configuration. Since I don't recall doing anything, is there an easy way (perhaps that reinstall!) to reset GIMP and everything it uses to factory defaults? Thanks, Simon.
