Actually I haven't tried any "odd" options on the device. fusermount
doesn't seem to have too many options anyway. I guess I'm not
terribly comfortable with fuse. LUKS uses device-mapper; I understand
how that works. Fuse and fusermount are still a bit of a mystery to
me.

I worked with AppArmor for a long time last night with no luck. Same
problem when executing the mount from Truecrypt...

Have you looked at the mount options? It is possible that the options do not
allow you to execute commands on that drive.
