thanks to all of you who contributed to this issue. i have learned a
lot about linux during this thread to help me when 11.1 comes out.
how did i solve the issue? after several failures to get x started, i
decided to re-purpose the machine. i installed (forgive me) windows
xp home on the box and i've decided to give it to a friend of mine for
christmas.
he's a nice gentleman who needs a computer. he's a songwriter and a
poet. and he needs something to write on and store his work.
so i will be patient. i look forward to 11.1 and the fixes that, i
hope, will allow me a more satisfying experience with opensuse. i'm
not opposed to learning something new and getting my hands dirty.
so i wait for 11.1 and give it another shot another day.
cheers,
dwain
p.s. thanks again for all the tremendous input and effort.
