[opensuse] Keyboard Randomly Stops Working (sort of)

I am using openSUSE 11.0 64-bit and at random times the keyboard stops
working to input text, but if I press ctrl+alt+backspace I hear a beep
and if I press it again the X server restarts and I am back at the
login screen and the keyboard fully works again. What can be causing
this?
