Then I suggest you back up any data you may need and start a new kde 3 install from scratch, after the install completes update immediately with yast 2 online update.
Reinstalling doesn't solve things
Oh, I beg to differ. I've had several occasions where I've mucked something up and found the only way to fix it is to reinstall.
Rebooting often works as well.
Rebooting might, but resinstalling... I don't do that in years.
And he solved the problem at last without reinstalling. In this case he had already reinstalled several times and each time he bumped into the same exact problem. Reinstalling once more wouldn't solve anything more.

On my system libxcrypt has 807 dependencies and ConsoleKit has 182, not knowing the OPs expertise and knowing that reinstalling without a complete reformat sometimes doesn't solve the problem, (also getting very tired) I suggested a reinstall. If the problem occurs after a fresh install, with the installation medium enabled as a repository, then it is a bug that hasn't been reported yet. Anyway the outcome was good and OP has experienced one of linux's advantages, being able to solve problems from the command line quickly and easily, if you know how.
