Please guide Chris how you managed to get it working on x86_64.
Regarding emerald, follow the http://en.opensuse.org/Compiz_Troubleshooting and little bit of experimentation.

Chris, Here is how i got 0.7.8 working. However, I was never able to get emerald themes to work. (1) Uninstall compiz from the command line: sudo rpm -e $(rpm -qa | grep compiz) $(rpm -qa | grep ccsm) fusion-icon or as root, just: rpm -e $(rpm -qa | grep compiz) $(rpm -qa | grep ccsm) fusion-icon (2) If enabled in yast -> software management, _disable_ the X11:/XGL repository and _enable_ the X11:/Compiz repository. (3) Log out and log back in (just to restart kdm) (4) Got to yast -> software management; Search 'compiz'; install: compiz compizconfig-settings-manager compiz-emerald compiz-emerald-themes compiz-fusion-kde compiz-fusion-plugins-extra compiz-fusion-plugins-main compiz-kde compiz-manager libcompizconfig python-compizconfig (5) Yast - user management; create new user, doesn't matter what name 'testuser' works fine; (6) logout & log back in as 'testuser' (7) open konsole and issue the command: compiz-manager --replace & (8) once compiz starts, configure it with compizconfig-settings-manager the way you like it. Once set, then open konsole and as root or with sudo: cp -a /home/testuser/.xcompmgrrc /home/youruser && \ cp -a /home/testuser/.config/compiz /home/youruser/.config (9) logout of testuser and log in as you. compiz should now work as you. (compiz-manager --replace &) If you find out how to get emerald to work, then call me. None of the troubleshooting stuff works. -- David C. Rankin, J.D., P.E.
