Thats 14Meg every couple of days - I dont have unlimited traffic on my

True, but with the default YaST behaviour, if you have a LAN, you need to
download the same packages on each PC, which is worse. With Smart, you can
download to a shared /var/lib/smart/packages dir.
ps. the Smart GUI also still doesnt have a tick box for keeping packages.
No, but it has a one-time command:
smart config --set remove-packages=false
which is as easy as a tickbox, and doesn't require you to remember to
manually
edit the file for new repos (and, according to Dave, not edit it in YaST
afterwards).
