In view of the above comment, I guess it is time I ordered the 3rd HDD and rather setup RAID5.

HW RAID cards are a MAJOR expense for a home hobbyist who just likes to make sure their data is retrievablein the event of a HDD crash.
FYI only: A 2-port 3Ware card is comparable in cost to a third drive. They have good Linux support, and can be booted from. And the 3Ware are true hardware raid, not fakeraid. For IDE: 3Ware Escalade 7006-2 Low-Profile 2-Port ATA RAID Controller -$110 at NewEgg For SATA: 3ware 8006-2LP PCI 64-bit SATA 2-port SATA - $125 at NewEgg If you google you can save some money buying them used. I've had 20 or more 2-port IDE 3ware controllers in use for 5+ years. Not a failure on any of them so I would consider used if I was pinching pennies.
