The Kmail standalone:
The last version is release 40.4 and it doesn't crash on paste using mouse 
middle button, Ctrl+c and Ctrl+v, and context menu Copy and Paste. I used 
random parts of text with URL in it. 

The Kmail in Kontact has no problems with the same tests as above. 

Maybe some desktop effect have problem. 
I lost control over desktop few times, disabled few desktop effects, and it is 
OK now. I have to play a bit more to find out which effect is doing this.
