There is libpng3 compatibility package 
  | libpng3   | package    | 1.2.26-14.1 | x86_64 | openSUSE-11.0-Oss
  | libpng3   | package    | 1.2.26-14.1 | i586   | openSUSE-11.0-Oss

libpng3   Library for the Portable Network Graphics Format (PNG) - 
compatibility version

libpng3-1.2.26-14.1.i586.rpm will install in /usr/lib
libpng3-1.2.26-14.1.x86_64.rpm will install in /usr/lib64 

What is the difference?
