Under what circumstances would this be used?
I would assume you'd do that when you want root to access NFS shares, which could be a security risk
The most common reason is diskless clients whos root filesystem is an nfs share. This smells like a homework question.
At the moment I have root_squash. Sometimes when users get into a mess It would be good to be able to be root on the client at which they are working and mess around with nfs shares there. Surely, if only I know the root password on the client then it's not a security risk is it? What am I missing and does anyone else use it?
When you reply smells, what do you mean? Thanks. L x
I said the question smelled like a homework assignment. But you have now convinced me it's not. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/simile -- Brian K.
