[opensuse] Opensuse 10.3 can't use encryption on hotel network; windows machines are fine

I'm at a hotel for the week in meetings. I can use knetworkmanager and
connect fine to the hotel's wireless network. I can browser any sites
that are non-ssl but anything ssl fails to connect. I also can't connect
to an instant messenger server (using pidgin) that uses SSL, but aol and
yahoo work fine.
Windows machines using the same wireless network are fine.
I've tried re-enabling the security things in firefox in about:config
and that didn't help. (It's not just firefox anyway)
Other details:
I have no firewall running.
I can nmap to port 443 to one of the servers and it works fine.
I was in an airport yesterday and had no problems.
Someone else has a sled machine and it connects fine.
Anyone seen this before? I'm stumped.
Thanks,
James
