Hence, it seams the sound is not caused or emitted by the speakers. Do you use a laptop? Often, they have got a very fast reacting fan control. Thus, I can hear my laptop working sometimes. Especially, if there is a periodic load in contrast to a constant one: http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Problem_with_high_pitch_noises moving windows or just the mouse in xorg strange noise like a rapid series of very short high pitch noises adding to a constant kind of whistling (only as long as the movement goes)
Above, there are some hints to get rid of the noises. And, google "firefox linux high pitch noise mouse moving" (without the qoutes).
Thanks Jan, This forum thread suggested the fix: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=678170 In my case I unplugged my monitor's audio cable. I now use different speakers. All very unexpected... but great that the noise is gone :) Thanks Mark
