Its because Samba users and passwords are kept SEPARATELY. You need to add
samba users with smbpasswd -a unix_user_name command.

How do I configure samba on openSUSE(I'm running 11.0) without a
password under YaST? I know how to go back in and edit the
/etc/samba/samba.conf file manually, but I've never been able to get
YaST to configure it properly. It always asks for a password when I
try to connect, but no matter what password I setup it never works.
I've always had to edit the file by hand to "fix" what YaST should
have been able to do. One of the reason's I stick with openSUSE is
YaST, but this is something that I have never been able to get to work
properly. I figure I'm missing something simple, but I have no idea.
Thanx
