How can I revert xorg & XGL configs back to default? I tried the sax2
-r command and it takes me to a text screen but the system is still in
runlevel 5.

I managed to get compiz disabled and for that to persist between
reboots, however now the system is slow as molassas. I type and what
is shown on the screen is delayed 3 seconds. I open the k-menu and it
takes 5 seconds for it to show up, open a Konsole window and it takes
almost a minute to fully load, etc. I think this has to do with me
using the xgl enable and disable commands too many times...

compiz (animation) - Error: Animation settings mismatch in "Animation
Selection" list for Focus event.

Try this:

rm -rf ~/.config/compiz

Your plugin configuration seems to be messed up.

If possible install latest packages from X11:XGL repository, it has
many improvements and fixes. Use 1-click from here:
http://en.opensuse.org/Compiz_Fusion

Make sure you have all the packages of same version (0.7.6) after update.

Cheers
