Hi,

sorry for the late reply.

I only use Thunderbird for email not for newsgroups.
Because it keeps on freezing I'm now using Kmail or Evolution which seem to
work just fine...

Now I'm trying to choose between the two, still under KDE 3.5.9... Kmail vs.
Evolution... which one is better?? :-)

Cheers,
Martin

Hi list,

I'm in the process of customizing my new openSuSE 11.0 x86_64 at home.
Still using KDE 3.5.9 due to it's maturity and really looking forward to
seeing KDE4 more stable...

Anyway, after configuring Thunderbird as IMAP client for my Gmail accounts
the process itself peaks up to 98% and almost freezes the whole system. The
OpenGL screensavers move in slow motion (dropping a lot of frames) and the
only way out is to 'pkill thunderbird'...

Using Kmail instead works fine though... but I do prefer Thunderbird (more
used to it).

So, has anyone faced such a situation under openSuSE 11 before? if so, what
have you done to solve it?

TIA,
Martin

I've experienced the same problem a while ago (not sure about the version I had
then as I was using factory) with gmail
IMAP and every time I have attempted to use Tbird for novell newsgroups it has
slowed down and eventually locked when
downloading message bodies. If I remember correctly my gmail IMAP lockup also
happened when downloading message bodies.
I used popmail instead and forgot about the problem. Maybe we have found a bug,
does your lockup happen when downloading
message bodies and have you tried newsgroups? My last newsgroup problem was
recent.
