Is this home network or corporate?
Is gerver a Windows machine (and if so which Windows version) or a Samba
box?
Are you in charge of it?
If the answer to the last question is no, I would suggest using dig (or>ping gerver
possibly ping) but if this a workgroup based setup the machine/server
name could have absolutely no relationship to the IP based hostname.
Simplest thing is to try ....
ping gerver
ping: unknown host gerver
>ping //gerver
ping: unknown host //gerver
and see what you have, or ask whoever is in charge of the machine.I asked around and found the ip address. mount -t cifs //172.20.01.100/film /mnt/gerver/film/ now works. Strange that in 10.3 I could use it's name instead of it's IP.
If the answer is yes then go to the machine and check the current
network settings.
