I'm getting confused due to some top-posting and some bottom posting. The person helping me the most uses top-posting so that's what I'm going to use from now on in this thread. dhenson@Earth-svr:~/Desktop> /etc/modprobe.d/sound bash: /etc/modprobe.d/sound: Permission denied dhenson@Earth-svr:~/Desktop> su - Password: Earth-svr:~ # /etc/modprobe.d/sound -bash: /etc/modprobe.d/sound: Permission denied Earth-svr:~ # ls -l /etc/modprobe.d/sound -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 124 Jun 26 17:41 /etc/modprobe.d/sound Earth-svr:~ # Don Henson kbboykin@comcast.net wrote:
Your file looks okay.
What does /etc/modprobe.d/sound look like?

What does lsmod show? I have attached mine for comparison.

Hi Don,
I have the same or very similar card in my Toshiba laptop. I cannot hear any
sound until both the PCM and master are at or above 85. Try turning up your volume and then adjust down until you can't hear it any more. Then you should find the volume you machine requires. HTH.

I'm having problems setting up sound in 11.0. I think all the options are confusing me. The YaST Sound Configuration module tells me:
82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio Controller • Configured as sound card number 0 • Driver snd-hda-intel
I set both the Master & PCM volume sliders to 67 but Test produces no sound. The help screen just confused me more. All I'm looking for is a preferably simple setup that will allow most applications to produce basic sound. If you know of such a setup, please point me to it. Any assistance will be appreciated.

No work. I set the PCM and Master sliders to 85. No sound. Set sliders to 95. No sound. Set sliders too 100. No sound. Any other suggestions?

I've attached my lsmod. I'm no expert (Heck, I'm barely a newbie) but it looks like something is amiss.
