Yeah, I'm kinda thinking that if I purchase a replacement drive, I'll get
one that's either a single drive (instead of two drives spanned) so I can
pull it out of the enclosure, or get one that has a SATA interface on
it. I know one of my machines has SATA on it, and I think actually one I
just bought used also has it. Not sure if they have external connectors
or not, will have to check that out.

For that reason the external HD boxes I buy now have both usb and sata
interfaces, so that I can run smart tests on them. I still haven't
tested this feature, I need to add a sata card to my PC.
The other thing is to see if I can find boxes with the usb chipset Per
said. I have some reading to do.
