More: if you backup to another partition, remember that there are accidents that can destroy both the original and the backup partition.
I use a shell script.
What Matt says is absolutely true: a raid is not a backup, it doesn't cover you from many types of disaster.
For instance:
- You accidentally delete a file: lost for ever.
This is not a requirement of my backup.
- The kernel has a bug, corrupts the filesystem. Both copies of the mirror are destroyed simultaneously, every thing is lost.
