Further, and worse for businesses, are apps. that aren't available yet to run in "4." I'm sure there's a lot of home users that would/will be happy with it, but thats about it.
But you can run any KDE3 application under KDE4 - or any other desktop you prefer. I regularly run konversation from KDE3 under KDE4.
Yes and no......some apps. don't play nice.
I see the other problem: Some functionality is not the same as it was in KDE3 - some of that on purpose since with KDE4 the KDE developers wanted to do some changes, so let's not expect a 1:1 feature parity between them ;-). There's other stuff that hopefully will come along, and I miss the panel hide option on my 1024x768 display as well :-(
On some desktops, it's not as big a deal, but on laptops - it's mandatory! So much so, I WON'T install it on a laptop until this and some other things have been fixed. I can't believe that it was left out as an option....pure ignorance, IMHO. As to the "rest" of KDE3 functionality, it had better find it's way into KDE4 (99% of it anyway) or there's going be a revolt of some kind. I don't think that Novell would be very happy with KDE team leadership if there was a mass exodus to another disto. Right or wrong, this IS likely if management doesn't get their head outta where the sun doesn't shine and tries to force an inferior functioning KDE on us by removing KDE3.
