No, it's not immature...it's incomplete.
Maybe YOU personally never put your car in reverse...but that's still
no excuse for designing a transmission without a reverse gear, and
presenting it to the public as an improvement.

Indeed. After ironing out a few initial wrinkles, it's certainly MY preferred choice.
