I'm not very good at reading logs but I don't see anything in there related to DVDs.

Try the command "dmesg" half a minute after you insert the dvd. The light on your drive should go on for some seconds, perhaps blinking, then go off, as the drive tries to see what it has got.

You can also try the command "dvd+rw-mediainfo /dev/dvd".
