You can't seriously believe that every program which calls write(2) *MUST* be GPL to run on Linux -- That would be bat-shit fucking INSANE.
If it's statically compiled against the kernel, yup. Fortunately most code isn't compiled this way.
I.e. .. if you make money off of Trolltech libraries, then Trolltech gets a cut. If you don't, then they don't demand one.
You're simply wrong. If you release something, even if you don't make money from it, you're required to GPL it or pay the proprietary licensing fee.
