Does anyone know if it does build an initial index and then adds to it?

When I ran it for a few days I had the impression that it didn't add to an
existing index but kept looking at the lot to see if anything had changed.

What do you mean ?

beagle-info --index-info
or one of the menu entries in beagle-search shows the number of items
in the current index.
