So, the question is, precisely which directories and files must I back up in order to have a full backup of my Evolution (while, hopefully, leaving behind whatever has become poisoned)?
This is HowTo move Evolution data and setup from one computer to other one or to back it up before do a bare metal installation of a new version of the OS.
1. Force shutdown.
In the Old computer:
$ evolution --force-shutdown
In the New One:
$ evolution --force-shutdown
$ gconftool-2 --shutdown
2. Copy 2 folder from the old to the new.
Copy the folders from old to new, you must have all files from the ~/.evolution
and
~/.gconf/apps/evolution
directories.
If you use the same username then it is all what you need. If you change the user's name things a far more complicated. Just post it and I will help you. The easy one is to use the same user's name.

Wonderful, that looks great. Many thanks, Cheers, Simon (Westminster, CO :) "You can tell whether a man is clever by his answers. You can tell whether a man is wise by his questions."
