Listmates, I have 2 10.3 boxes with software raid and I can't figure out why dmraid works/reports correctly on one and does not report the array present on the other. Both boxes work just fine. Box 1 has no /proc/dmstat and box 2 does. Box 2 has an /etc/mdadm.conf, box 1 doesn't. What in the heck is going on?. Here is the setup on box 1: [23:32 nirvana/home/david/linux/apps/rpncalc-1.36] # dmraid -r /dev/sda: nvidia, "nvidia_hacfgfda", mirror, ok, 976773166 sectors, data@ 0 /dev/sdb: nvidia, "nvidia_hacfgfda", mirror, ok, 976773166 sectors, data@ 0 [23:35 nirvana/home/david/linux/apps/rpncalc-1.36] # df -h Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/mapper/nvidia_hacfgfda_part7 32G 7.5G 23G 25% / udev 1007M 140K 1007M 1% /dev /dev/mapper/nvidia_hacfgfda_part5 69M 26M 40M 40% /boot /dev/mapper/nvidia_hacfgfda_part8 425G 111G 293G 28% /home This box has no /proc/dmstat or /etc/mdadm.conf Box 2: root@trinity:/array1/backup/srv/www/download/programming/bash # dmraid -r No RAID disks root@trinity:/array1/backup/srv/www/download/programming/bash # df -h Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/sda5 18G 9.4G 7.3G 57% / udev 1014M 112K 1014M 1% /dev /dev/sdb2 24G 8.8G 14G 40% /home /dev/sda1 40G 9.7G 30G 25% /windows/C /dev/sdb1 15G 948M 14G 7% /windows/D /dev/md0 459G 735M 435G 1% /array1 root@trinity:/array1/backup/srv/www/download/programming/bash # cat /proc/mdstat Personalities : [raid1] md0 : active raid1 sdc1[0] sdd1[1] 488383864 blocks super 1.0 [2/2] [UU] bitmap: 0/466 pages [0KB], 512KB chunk unused devices: <none> root@trinity:/array1/backup/srv/www/download/programming/bash # cat /etc/mdadm.conf DEVICE partitions ARRAY /dev/md0 level=raid1 UUID=32bff6c8:cc47f6d9:3f031b68:177fea11 The raid on both boxes were set up with yast. Done the same way. Why does box 2 say "No RAID disks"? Is it because box 1 has openSuSE installed on the array and box 2 just has the array as storage? Lost again... -- David C. Rankin, J.D., P.E.
