By the way, it isn't that the "creator can know you are reading it", it is
that internet resources can be embedded in a file, causing acroread to try to
download them. It can be used for tracking, but it's not the primary purpose

This is a documented feature, and not very diferent from reading a web
page: the creator can know you are reading it.
