Hi, thanks for help. I uninstalled my previously used nvidia driver, ran sax2 and glxgears now works. For future 
reference if you switch from nvidia pkg.run file from nvidia you must manually uninstall the driver from runlevel 3 cli 
use NVIDIA-linux-name of driver-pkg?.run --uninstall then run sax2 and then all is well.
