Hello users and developers! I use lighttpd-1.4.19 with openSUSE 10.3. It works without any problems, with SSL too. Now I want give access to some directory for users knowing password. So I changed my configuration reading this document: http://trac.lighttpd.net/trac/wiki/Docs:ModAuth This is my auth.conf: ## debugging # 0 for off, 1 for 'auth-ok' messages, 2 for verbose debugging auth.debug = 2 ## type of backend # plain, htpasswd, ldap or htdigest auth.backend = "htdigest" # filename of the password storage for # plain auth.backend.plain.userfile = "lighttpd-plain.user" ## for htpasswd auth.backend.htpasswd.userfile = "/srv/www/htdocs/Solaris/lighttpd-htpasswd.user" ## for htdigest auth.backend.htdigest.userfile = "lighttpd-htdigest.user" auth.require = ( "/Solaris/" => ( "method" => "digest", "realm" => "Gimme pass", "require" => "user=hiper" ) ) Part of lighttpd.conf: server.modules = ( "mod_access", # "mod_alias", "mod_auth", # "mod_evasive", # "mod_redirect", # "mod_rewrite", # "mod_setenv", # "mod_usertrack", ) Of course file lighttpd-htdigest.user exists, is generated by htdigest from apache2-utils and contains valid user, realm and MD5 hash. User don't exist in my /etc/passwd but I think it doesn't matter. Now I start lighttpd - it runs without problems and doesn't show any error messages in logs. When I enter webpage address (ie. http://mypage.com/Solaris/) I can see index.html file - browser doesn't show any password dialog window. I tried following combinations: pointing browser to port 80 and 443, using different browsers (Firefox, Opera, Konqueror), different modes of authentication (plain, htpasswd, htdigest), full and relative paths to password files, even installed snapshot version of lighttpd-15 - without any effect. Password dialog simply doesn't show :( How can I debug this strange behaviour? Can anybode help me? Is it openSUSE related problem? PS. I have send this message to Lighttpd forum (http://forum.lighttpd.net/topic/67443#new), but received no replies. -- Tomasz Lewicki PGP key: http://stalker.republika.pl/stalker.asc
